Innovative approaches can provide answers to economic and societal challenges such as demographic change, the current migration wave, and the unequal distribution of wealth. In order to improve European cohesion, the European Centre for Social Welfare Policy and Research aims at constructing new bridges between stakeholders, sectors, countries, policies, and systems in the field of social welfare.

In this context, the European Centre will organise a launch event to further focus its activities in the EU acceding countries of Eastern Europe and countries of the Eastern Partnership. The Workshop ‘Building Bridges in Social Welfare Policy in Eastern Europe’ takes place on 19 September 2023 in Vienna. It aims at gathering and exchanging expertise from researchers, policy makers and practitioners on Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, Turkey, and Ukraine.

Call for Papers

The organisers invite scholars and experts with expertise in innovative approaches in labour market policy and health and social care (long-term care) arrangements in the above countries to submit an abstract for

  • either an academic paper
  • or a good practice

by online submission via the linked website (see `link to event´ above).

The call for abstracts on academic papers and good practice is open until 27 May 2023. Following a review process, selected experts will be invited to present their paper at the workshop. Draft final papers should be delivered by 2 September 2016. A limited number of bursaries will be available to finance travel and accommodation from presenters from the above-mentioned countries.

Established in 1974 in Vienna, based on an Agreement between the United Nations and the Federal Government of Austria as the Host Government, the European Centre for Social Welfare Policy and Research aims to provide governments, international institutions, research institutes and civil society organisations with relevant know-how and advice for establishing or improving structures in the social welfare field, based on expertise drawn from the European Centre’s empirical and comparative cross-national research.
