Workshop on Water Management and Environmental Impact Assessment in the Oil and Gas Industry

Brunel University London and Nazarbayev University are very pleased to announce this Workshop which is supported by the British Council Newton-Al Farabi Partnership Programme.

It will be held in Astana, Kazakhstan from 14-17 March 2016. The purpose of the workshop is to bring together researchers, practitioners, local government and funding agencies from the UK and Kazakhstan in order to establish long lasting collaboration between the two countries in the field of sustainable water resources management for application in the oil and gas industry.

The workshop will be attended by leading, established and early-stage researchers from the UK and Kazakhstan to discuss the most pertinent issues facing structures under extreme hazards and identify and prioritise areas requiring future research. The coordinators of this Workshop are keen to facilitate the pathway between the researchers and the various stakeholders in order to ensure that the findings and recommendations are implemented to benefit local communities.

Indicative topics that will be covered include:

  • Water management in the oil and gas plants – technological solutions
  • Environmental and economic impact assessment within the oil and gas industry
  • Conventional and advanced treatment processes for the treatment of wastewater – water reuse 
  • Legislative aspects related the discharge/reuse of the reclaimed water
  • Oil spill/disaster emergency response and mitigation
  • Industrial case studies 
  • Funnding opportunities

The Workshop will take place over 4 days and will be organised in parallel with another Workshop on "Resilient Structures and Infrastructure".
