Summer Academy on EU Legislation in Russian language for Law Students from Russia and Kazakhstan
The Wismar University of Technology, Business and Design recently hosted a Summer Academy on the common legislation of the EU Member States. 'Common legislation is also of interest for the countries of the former Soviet Union, not only against the backdrop of the need to build their own legal systems , but also with regards to the goal of harmonising law in growing economies,' says Dr. Jur. Habil. Hans-Joachim Schramm, who teaches at the Faculty of Economics. The students came from the renowned Pambouka Institute in Moscow and the Al-Farabi University in Almaty. For most of them it was their first visit to Western Europe.
'The fact hat the Summer Academy was held in Russian language made it easier for us to enter into the sometimes complex issues,' Kazakh participant Archat Abikenov points out as one of the the 28 Kazakh and 8 Russian participants. This Russian language programme is unique in Germany in the field of higher education. Against the background of a world growing together ever more closely, the partcipants not only received professional training but also got a glimpse of daily life in a Western European country. So, for example, a visit to the regional court in Hamburg was part of the extensive programme.
Archat Abikenov, lecturer at the Kazakhstan Al-Farabi University in Almaty, took advantage of his participation in the Summer Academy to discuss possibilities for future cooperation between his school and the Wismar Faculty of Economics with the Rector of the University of Wismar. These range from a lecturer exchange, via the continuation of the Summer Academy for law students to the implementation of a double degree programme.
