UNESCO Consultation in Central Asia on S&T; statistics and indicators

UNESCO's Division of Science Policy and Sustainable Development and the UNESCO Institute for Statistics organised a sub-regional consultation in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, as a first step towards establishing a sustainable STI statistics system for the sub-region.
The meeting assessed recent trends in the sub-region with regard to STI indicators, discussed STI policy-relevant indicators for those countries with transition economies and promoted the use of STI indicators to support evidence-based S&T policy-making. The meeting in Tashkent is part of a global consultation designed and implemented by UNESCO on science, technology and innovation (STI) statistics and indicators. It was being organised in co-operation with the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), the Uzbek Academy of Science and the National Commission of Uzbekistan for UNESCO.
