The European Commission's Participant Portal hosts all Horizon 2020 calls.

Horizon 2020 is open to the world, allowing European researchers to cooperate with their counterparts around the world in H2020 projects on any topic. A dedicated sub-page of the Participant Portal lists H2020 calls with topics especially suited for International Cooperation.

Further orientation is offered by the German NCP for International Cooperation in H2020, who have published a list of targeted calls with recommended participation of third countries in the work programme 2016-2017, including a categorisation for third country participation (encouraged, recommended, strongly recommended).

    Upcoming Horizon 2020 Calls addressing Eastern Partnership Countries

    A unique opportunity for researchers in the EaP countries is coming up soon! EU and EaP partners should now start to form consortia to prepare joint proposals in two thematic fields of Horizon 2020: 'Nanotechnologies, Advanced Materials, Biotechnology, Advanced Manufacturing and Processing' and 'Smart, Green and Integrated Transport'. In the forthcoming Work Programmes 2018-2020 (to be formally published on 27 October 2017) there is a whole batch of calls recommending 'in particular' the cooperation with the Eastern Partnership countries.

    Continuous joint competitions of the Russian Foundation for Basic research (RFBR) and Austrian Science Fund (FWF)

    The Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR), in accordance with the Memorandum on Cooperation with the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) conducts continuous competitions (with no time limits for submitting the applications during the validity period of Memorandum). The aim of the competition is to grant financial support for initiative research projects being conducted by Russian and Austrian scientists.

    SCOPES 2013-2016: Call for Joint Research Projects and Call for Institutional Partnerships

    The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) are launching a new phase of the programme “SCOPES - Scientific co-operation between Eastern Europe and Switzerland”. In the framework of SCOPES 2013–2016, there will be a first call for proposals for Joint Research Projects (= JRP, open from 20 March to 20 September 2013) and a second call for proposals for Institutional Partnerships (= IP, open from spring to autumn 2014).

    Newton – Al-Farabi Partnership Programme

    The Newton – Al-Farabi Partnership Programme is a five-year, £20 million joint programme launched in 2014 by the UK Government and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Each side will provide equal funding. The programme forms part of the Newton Fund, a £375 million fund administered by the UK’s Department for Business, Innovation and Skills. The Newton Fund is part of the UK’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) commitment. Through the Fund, the UK will use its strength in research and innovation to promote the economic development and social welfare of partner countries.

    Promoting young researchers in social sciences and humanities from South Caucasus countries

    Starting in 2009, GEBERT RÜF STIFTUNG, in conjunction with ACADEMIC SWISS CAUCASUS NET (ASCN), will be financing a multi-year programme to promote the social sciences and humanities in the South Caucasus with the aim of making a key contribution to the process of democratization. The emphasis of the programme is on the promotion of individuals. Young researchers working in the above fields will be supported and trained within the framework of European-standard research projects and other activities.

    Humboldt Research Fellowships for Experienced Researchers

    Scientists and scholars of all nationalities and disciplines may apply to the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation directly at any time. The Humboldt Foundation grants approximately 600 Humboldt Research Fellowships for postdoctoral researchers and experienced researchers annually. Short-term study visits, participation in congresses and training courses cannot be financed.

    Gerda Henkel Foundation: Central Asia Programme now integrated into the Foundation's regular grant programme

    From 2004 to 2013, the Gerda Henkel Foundation offered a programme to support outstanding scholars whose research is focused on Central Asia, mainly on Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Northern Afghanistan, Southern Siberia, Tadzhikistan, Tibet, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Xinjiang. After 10 years of existence, the Special Programme Central Asia, after a last deadline in the end of June 2013, has been integrated into the Foundation's regular grant programme.  Applications from researchers from Central Asia or topics related to Central Asian history will now be considered within the Foundation's Research and PhD Grant Programme.
