Horizon 2020 Info Day in Kyrgyzstan

On 15 April 2024 the National Coordinating Center of Horizon 2020 in the Kygryz Republic held an Informational Seminar on the European Union's Framework Programme for Science and Innovation 'Horizon 2020'.

The Seminar was opened by Prof. Jyldyz Bakashova – the National Coordinator of 'Horizon 2020' in the Kyrgyz Republic.

Welcoming remarks were made by the Chairman of the Committee on Science of the Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic Mr. Kanybek Osmonaliev, Vice-president of the National Academy of Sciences and academician Mr. Almaz Aldashev, Head of the Department of Science at the Ministry of Education and Science Prof. Abubakir Zhuraev, Regional Project Coordinator of CAREN project and academician Mr. Askar Kutanov. All of them noted that the seminar was of great importance to the scientific industry in the country, and aimed at strengthening and deepening scientific and technical cooperation between the states of the European Union and Kyrgyzstan.

The main objective of the seminar was the involvement of the scientific community of Kyrgyzstan in research projects of 'Horizon 2020'.

The seminar was attended directly by more than 50 people including Members of Parliament from the Committee on Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the National Parliament, senior officials from the Ministry of Education and Science, representatives from the State Agency of Environment and Forestry, renowned scientists from various academic institutions under the National Academy of Science and universities throughout the country, representatives from public environmental initiatives, environmental youth movement, various NGOs and other organizations. A simultaneous translation from English to Russian to English was provided at the event. 

The Seminar was broadcast online for scholars at universities and institutes of National Academy of Sciences. A videoconference was held for 550 participants from 34 universities, research institutes and scientific institutions of the republic.

Information about the Framework Programme 'Horizon 2020' was presented by Mr. Ülle Must ETAg (Head of International Research Cooperation, Estonia), Ms. Ülle Napa, ETAg (Environmental projects expert, Estonia), and Mr. Vojtěch Nosek, GG (Health projects expert, Czech Republic).

Special attention was paid to the Framework Programme's priority fields such as Health and IMI,  H2020 structure, navigating participants portal, basic structure of 'Horizon 2020', application process, ways to get involved and finding partners, Incontact 2020, and the like.

Mr. Vojtěch Nosek gave a review of the structure of 'Horizon 2020', acquainted with new project calls for 2015 in health, demographic change and wellbeing, and IMI. He also spoke in details about participation rules, application process, grants application process, finding partners and funds.

Ms. Ülle Napa presented about new calls for 2015 on climate change, environmental security, effective use of resources and raw materials.

Ms. Ülle Must shared her experience with application process. She elaborated on application forms, the European Commission's selection criteria, twinning grants, and mapping the existing collaboration.

Finally, National Coordinator of 'Horizon 2020' in Kyrgyzstan Prof. Jyldyz Bakashova spoke about the ways support is organized locally for 'Horizon 2020', as well as acquainted the audience with prospects for further development and cooperation in the framework of 'Horizon 2020'.

During the present Seminar all participants actively discussed most frequently asked questions, especially those related to filing out applications and registration procedures for various projects.
After the seminar the participants received certificates.

The Informational Seminar was widely broadcast in the mass-media, TV, radio, as well as on the websites of the National Library of Kyrgyzstan (nlkr.gov.kg), Ministry of Culture, Information and Tourism (minculture.gov.kg), in the country's largest newspaper 'Vecherniy Bishkek' (http://www.vb.kg/), and on the website of 'Novosti' (http://www.novosti.izde.kg/).
