'Horizon 2020' – the new Framework Programme of the European Union for research and innovation for 2014-2020 has for the first time been introduced to scientists and researchers of Kyrgyzstan. On 4 February 2014 the National Contact Point for the EU Framework Programmes in Kyrgyzstan conducted an informational workshop in Bishkek.Among the participants in this workshop were Member of Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic, Head of the Committee on Education and Science of the Parliament of KR – Kanybek Osmonaliev; Head of the Department of Science, Ministry Education and Science KR – Abubakir Zhuraev; eminent scientists, academics and professors, as well as young scientists and researchers from more than 40 scientific academic institutes of NAS KR and Universities. Representatives of scientific institutions from all seven regions of the country attended the event.

A number of presentations were made during the workshop. Ulle Must – Head of the Department of International Research Cooperation at the Estonian Research Council – gave presentations on subjects as: 'H2020 Structure', 'Application Process and Time Frame', 'H2020 Information Tools'; Maria Habicht – National Coordinator for Energy and Transport of Estonia – introduced participants to the 'H2020 – New Rules for Participation and Financial Issues'. The H2020 National Coordinator in KR, Jyldyz Bakashova, made a presentation about the first announced calls in all 18 priorities of the Framework Programme 'Horizon 2020' and on brokerage events within the projects for 2014, and also introduced a new website, created by the National Contact Point (NCP) for scientists, researchers and innovators of Kyrgyzstan: www.horizon2020.kg. This new portal will adress many of the questions around Horizon 2020, which were also comprehensively answered at the Info Day.

At the end of the workshop all participants were presented with certificates. The participants expressed their satisfaction with the content and organisation of the workshop and stressed their great interest and desire for further cooperation within 'Horizon 2020'.
